All of our luxury homes are named for famous, historic estates.. The Belmont Estate was founded in the 1730s in Howard County, Maryland during the Colonial period. This manor has historical significance during the plantation era, as well as in modern times as a conference center, college and Smithsonian institution. It is now a historic park, and is one of the finest examples of Colonial Georgian architectural styles in the state of Maryland. Georgian architecture encompasses and describes a particular set of building styles that were utilized between 1714 and 1830. It is named after the British monarchs who reigned in succession during those years: George I, George II, George III, and George IV. The Declaration of Independence and the birth of America also happened during those years. Colonial Georgian architecture emerged in America during this time and is characterized by its symmetrical design, classical proportions, and restrained ornamentation. This architectural style drew inspiration from the classical forms of ancient Greece and Rome, reflecting the ideals of order and balance. Georgian homes showcased a sense of dignity and elegance. Large windows adorned with shutters allowed ample natural light into the interiors. Prominent examples of Colonial Georgian architecture can be found in historic cities such as Williamsburg, Virginia, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The style not only left a lasting impact on residential structures but also influenced the design of public buildings, contributing to the architectural legacy of the early American colonies. This illustration is an artist’s concept of one of the elevations (Spanish or Mediterranean) for our Plan A – The Belmont. The additional elevation designs for this floor plan will differ in orientation, color scheme, and exterior finishes. No matter which elevation style you choose, the exterior is balanced and proportional, in a neoclassical style.
